LA Galaxy general manager Alexi Lalas is awaiting a verdict on the ankle injury that led to David Beckham being substituted for Real Madrid on Sunday.

Midfielder Beckham, 32, limped off after 66 minutes of his final game for Real Madrid, with his side beating Real Mallorca to take the Spanish title.

"We've not had any indication on the nature of the injury," said Lalas. "Right now he's still a Madrid player."

Beckham, who is set to join Galaxy in July, said he felt his ankle "snap".

"There was a lot of pain," added Beckham, who spent four years at Real.

He originally suffered the injury playing for England on 6 June - but Lalas said he was not surprised that Beckham played against Mallorca, despite not being fully fit.

"I don't think anything was going to keep him out of that game," added Lalas.

"He was obviously carrying an injury but it's nice that he can now have a rest and recuperate. He's going to need it."

After a holiday Beckham will start his five-year deal with the Major League Soccer club in the United States.

And Lalas said he was delighted that Beckham's time at Real ended with a title triumph.

"It's wonderful," said Lalas.

"We couldn't be happier for David and Real Madrid and we send our congratulations to him and his team.

"It was an incredible finish to an incredible season and it's a wonderful way for him to end his time in Spain before he heads off to America for a new adventure with the Galaxy."
