Fans Clamour to See Beckham Play

David Beckham is already proving a star attraction in the USA with 30,000 fans snapping up tickets to see him play for the LA Galaxy in New York next month.

The Galaxy's trip to play the Red Bulls, who lead the Eastern Conference of Major League Soccer, has caught the imagination of the public.

And the Bulls will smash their average home gate this season, with three times as many 'package' tickets already sold.

That figure will rise as individual match tickets go on sale on Friday.

It is great news for the MLS and for The Bulls, who play in the 80,000 capacity Giants Stadium but attract an average of only 10,729 fans per game.

Only 10,207 turned out for their corresponding fixture with the Galaxy in 2006.

"It's looking very promising," Red Bulls spokesman Eric Tosi said. "We are pleased with the progress made in ticket sales when we are still over a month out from the game.

"Over 30,000 tickets have been sold and tickets are going fast as midfield and sideline seats in the lower level are all sold out."

Beckham's first away game with the Galaxy is scheduled for 31 July in Texas, when the LA team takes on FC Dallas in the SuperLiga competition.

The 20,000-capacity Pizza Hut Park is nearing a sell-out for that game with only the most expensive, $250 dollar (£125) seats and also ones near the corners still available.
